Task 4_Adjective and Adverb

1.  Adjective ( Kata Sifat ) adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menerangkan kata benda. Adverb ( Kata Keterangan) adalah kata sifat yang digunakan untuk mengiringi kata kerja, Adverb terdapat beberapa macam yaitu Adverb of manner, Adverb of Frequency, Adverb of Time,  dan Adverb of Place.

2.      Example Adjective :

Menggunakan 1 Adjective

·         This shop is much nicer

·         Big girl

·         Indonesia food

·         Strong woman

·         Bad boy

Menggunakan 2 Adjective

·         I have some boy friends, but you are the best

·         Tonight is very quiet and dark

·         My sister is not only beatiful but also tall

Menggunakan lebih dari 2 Adjective

·         Luxury expensive sport car

·         Hinest smart diligent president

3.      Example Adverb

Adverb of Manner

·         The toaster will automatically turn off

·         Students have to walk calmly in the school

·         She carried out the homework slowly

Adverb of Frequency

·         I usually wake up at 5 a.m

·         That man is always angry

·         She has rarely prepared a delicious breakfast in 5 minutes

What would happen to you if gravity stopped working?

Gravity is a natural phenomenon by which all things with mass are brought toward (or gravitate toward) one another, including planets, stars, and galaxies. We have all experienced the force of gravity. If you jump up into the air, you will fall right back down to the ground. But what if we could switch gravity off? Physics is adamant that this could never actually happen. But that has not stopped people exploring the idea. Jay Buckey, a physician, and one-time NASA astronaut says that our bodies are adapted to an Earth-like gravitational environment. If we spend time living where gravity is different, such as on board a space station, our bodies change.

It is now an established fact that astronauts lose bone mass and muscle strength during stints in space, and their sense of balance changes. An absence of gravity brings other problems. For reasons not entirely clear, our red blood cell count falls, bringing on a form of "space anemia". Wounds take longer to heal and the immune system loses its strength and your sleep will get disturbed if gravity is weak or absent.

Jay Buckey points to an experiment in which a cat grew up with one eye permanently hidden behind an eyepatch. The cat was rendered blind in the eye as a result. so If the gravity had been around, the cat would have grown perfectly. It seems likely that the rest of our bodies would respond similarly. If gravity not around for our hearts, muscles, and bones to respond to, our organs will almost certainly develop in different ways. That said, if gravity did get switched off, we would have more pressing things to worry about than the long-term effects on human development. the immediate physical consequences of losing gravity are that Earth is rotating at high speed, rather like the way a weight on a string rotates if you spin it around your head.

Things not attached to the Earth in any other way would fly off into space in a straight line that would take them away from the surface of the Earth. Anyone unfortunate enough to be outside at the time would quickly be lost. People inside buildings would be safer because most buildings are so firmly rooted to the ground that they would stay put even without gravity – at least for a while. Anything else not nailed down would also float off. Earth's atmosphere and its oceans, rivers, and lakes would be one of the first things to drift away into space. A similar fate would befall the Sun. If the force of gravity didn’t hold it together, the intense pressures would cause it to burst open in a titanic explosion.

The same thing would happen to all the other stars in the Universe. However, because they are so far away, it would be years before the light from their death throes reached you. Eventually, If that thing had happened, the Universe wouldn’t have had the stars or planets. There would just be a diffuse soup of atoms and molecules, drifting around not doing anything much.

a. Must : Must merupakan tingkatan tertinggi karena must adalah sebuah keharusan, jika tidak dikerjakan akan terjadi apa-apa.

b. Shall : Shall merupakan keharusan juga namun berbeda dengan must, shall yaitu keharusan tetapi jika tidak dikerjakan tidak akan terjadi apa-apa.

c.  Can : Can menyatakan kemampuan namun tidak akan berpengaruh apa-apa kedepannya jika kita melakukannya maupun tidak.

  Can digunakan untuk menyatakan ability (kemampuan)

  Could digunakan untuk menyatakan ability (kemampuan) dimasa lalu (past).

Be able to juga dapat digunakan untuk menyatakan tentang kemampuan (ability). Dalam penggunaannya, be able to terdengar lebih formal.

√ Shall

digunakan untuk menyatakan simple future seperti halnya will namun hanya digunakan pada first person (orang pertama) I dan we. Shall [US English]^[2] jarang digunakan selain untuk polite question untuk first person.

2. We shall watch a movie tonight

√ Should

Should untuk memberi suggestion (saran) atau advice (nasehat).

1.I should see a doctor

2. She should be here by now

√ Ought to

Ought to digunakan untuk menyatakan apa yang benar atau tepat

1. Erna ought to have the shirt by now.

2. Iskadina ought to study more

√ May

  May untuk menyatakan possibility (kemungkinan) dimasa sekarang (present) dan masa depan (future).

1. He may be chosen as leader

2. You may come here if you want

√ Might

  Sama seperti may, modal verb ini digunakan untuk menyatakan possibility (kemungkinan) dimasa sekarang (present) dan masa depan (future)

1. I might get here yesterday

2. If i want there, i might come to his house

√ Will

  Will untuk menyatakan willingness (kemauan). Willingness dapat diungkapkan dalam conditional sentence type 1 maupun invitation (undangan/ajakan).

2. She will come soon.

√ Would

Modal verb ini menyatakan sense of probability (kemungkinan)

1. I would rather choose manggo than apple

2. He would be free tonight.

√ Must

Modal verb ini mengekspresikan obligation (kewajiban) atau necessity (kebutuhan).          

1. We must go to bed now.

2. She must invite her parents in Ngawi.

√ Have to

ketika seseorang membicarakan kebutuhan untuk melakukan sesuatu yang umumnya merupakan tanggungjawab sehari-hari (daily responsibility — objective obligation).
